DSJS Admission Information
BEFORE YOU APPLY
Applicants must have a master’s degree in Jewish Studies (or the equivalent) and the equivalent of at least two years of college-level Hebrew language to be considered for admission to the Doctor of Science in Jewish Studies program. Because of the nature of the program, it is advisable that applicants speak with Spertus Institute Dean and Chief Academic Officer Dr. Keren E. Fraiman before completing their application. HOW TO APPLY
Step 1
Complete Doctor of Science in Jewish Studies (DSJS) Application and submit with nonrefundable application fee of $75. A professional resume (uploaded into application) is also requested.
Step 2
Complete Admissions Essay (no word limit) and upload into the application.
Criteria for Admissions Essay
The essay must be clear and concise, indicating writing ability at the graduate level.
Part I
Include information about your educational background, personal and professional goals, and who you are. Spertus is interested in the writing and presentation skills of our applicants, therefore the essay must be clear, concise, and persuasive. We are also interested in the needs and goals of our applicants, so please discuss what you hope to learn in our program as well as your plans for the future.
Part II
Identify one challenging issue in contemporary Jewish life and offer reflections on how you would address it.
Step 3
Request official transcripts from all colleges and universities you have attended.
Submit electronic application.
