Bell and Cole share a belief in the power of classical texts to help us understand the world. Together they will explore the work of translation, the purpose of poetry, and the role of imagination in our lives—with a focus on language as an art form.

Peter Cole is a poet, translator, and professor. Among his many honors are an American Academy of Arts and Letters Award in Literature, a Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship, the National Jewish Book Award for Poetry, the PEN Prize for Poetry in Translation, and a MacArthur Fellowship.

In addition to his acclaimed books of poetry, Cole is the co-writer of Sacred Trash: The Lost and Found World of the Cairo Geniza, written with his wife, author Adina Hoffman. He divides his time between Jerusalem and New Haven, where he teaches each spring at Yale.
