A community-building, professional development series for Spertus students and alumni, professionals at Chicago Jewish organizations, and their guests

Build skills you can apply immediately to your life and work, and at the same time enjoy being part of a lively network of learners and community leaders.

Spertus Institute’s esteemed scholars and practitioners lead deep dives into topics ranging from Jewish wisdom to nonprofit management skills.

Sessions are online, live, interactive, and collaborative. Each session will include time to connect, network, meet new colleagues, and strengthen relationships.

$8 per participant per session.

How can we adapt our most familiar prayer to guide our work as communal professionals? Can we learn to listen, understand, and witness others more effectively? How does the Shema offer a model of resilience and growth? In this session we will explore a text and try out a practice for using Shema in the workplace.

Dr. Jane Shapiro is a Spertus faculty member and a mentor to Spertus graduate students. She is a founder of Orot: Center for New Jewish Learning, where her classes often incorporate text study. A graduate of Princeton University who received her doctorate from the Jewish Theological Seminary, she designs curricula and courses for adult educators and was awarded the prestigious Educators Award from the Covenant Foundation.
